Hyflux has entered a bid against 12 other global companies to prequalify for the 15-year license to design, build, own, operate and maintain an independent water project (IWP) in Qurayyat which will be subject to oversight by state-owned Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP).
Bidding developers from the UAE, Japan, Spain and Singapore includes:
- TAQA (Abu Dhabi National Energy Company)
- PAL Technology Services
- UTICO FZC
- Valoriza Agua
- Cobra Instalaciones Y Servicios
- GS Inima
- Sumitomo Corporation
After prequalification, companies may have the option to form strategic consortiums with other bidding candidates to obtain a winning edge and strengthen their position in the competitive bid.
Expected to be one of the largest green-field water-only projects in the Sultanate of Oman, the Qurayyat IWP is estimated to be operational in the second quarter of 2016 and will supply potable water to Muscat from the eastern part of the water grid, in contrast to the current practice of drawing water primarily from desalination plants in Barka and Sohar.
